  • Job Summary
The Clinical Trials Support Office (CTSO) is part of Michigan Medicine's strategic research initiative working towards improving clinical care, value, and health outcomes by successfully executing a diverse portfolio of high-quality clinical research. The CTSO provides the organizational structure of local service units, central infrastructure, and governance oversight. Within the CTSO, Clinical Trials Support Units (CTSUs) aligned by research foci, are trans-departmental and provide comprehensive pre- and post-award support to study teams, offering high-quality, efficient service in support of a wide variety of clinical research.

The CTSO helps life-changing research happen. The science we support is not only interesting, but it also has the very real potential to positively impact patients and their families. We are looking for a candidate who embraces their supporting role in pushing these scientific advancements forward. The CTSO is a relatively new organizational model. You'll have the flexibility to impact the entire team as our unit expands its mission to support clinical research. Creative problem-solving skills are strongly encouraged.

Like many administrative units across U-M, the CTSO is currently operating under a virtual work model for administrative staff. This position would currently be a work-from-home position and is likely to require little in-person activity in the future.

The Research Administrator Associate position is part of the new Research Administration career pathway, offering clear guidance on growing your career with our team. This position is responsible for standard/routine research administration-related activities, such as pre-award (i.e., budget development and negotiation) and/or post-award (i.e., reconciliation of project accounts, invoicing sponsors), and has potential to support any one of our Clinical Trials Support Units. This particular position emphasizes pre-award responsibilities.

    Responsibilities*
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Handle pre-award activities, ensuring all Michigan Medicine, University, and sponsor policies and guidelines are followed.
Prepare and negotiate budgets with sponsors.
Prepare and route CTRFs and PAFs.
Enter budgets in our Clinical Trials Management System, OnCore.
Serve as liaison for faculty with sponsor and University central offices (i.e., Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP), the Calendar Review & Analysis (CRAO). This will require close collaboration and frequent communication with departments, faculty, study teams, research administrators, and others.
    Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree and 1 - 3 years of grant and contract experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
1+ years of research administration experience.
Knowledge of administrative procedures and systems, with the ability to manage files and records and follow unit-specific procedures.
Math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
    Ability to identify issues.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Solid written, verbal, and electronic communication skills demonstrating the ability to present options and solutions in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to positively project the department internally and externally.
    Desired Qualifications*
Significant previous research administration, financial, medical billing, or study coordinator experience.
