  • Higher education is expensive in our country. Most of the students and their families have been complaining about the growing tuition cost from a long time. The increasing costs have taken a toll on hundreds of students, who have either opted out of education or are struggling to clear the debt of the student loan they were forced to take.

However, it is not only the students who seem to be affected. New study reveals that many higher education teachers are now looking for alternative work options because they are not happy with the kind of pay packages they are being offered.

This new development is definitely not good news for a number of colleges and universities across the nation. To begin with, what it means is that a decent number of talented and qualified teachers are not shying away from opting for other professions. This leaves the educational institutes with fewer qualified teachers. This will further have an impact on the quality of education, which has already been under the scanner since the past few years.

Most of the colleges and universities in our country are facing a financial crisis of some sorts. The funds reaching them from educational administrations are not enough to run the mill effectively. Hence, these institutes are left with no option but to reach out for cost-cutting initiatives.

Unfortunately, one of the initiatives is to cut down on the salaries of the staff. Colleges employ a lot of teachers and cutting down a significant portion from their salaries is a way of saving lot of money for the institute.

The situation is even worse for teachers who are termed ‘freshers’. The starting pay packages are disappointing to say the least. They are nowhere close to packages that will encourage budding students to take up this wonderful and pure profession. The current situation is further damaging the quality of education.

Since many years, our country is looked upon as a place that offers fantastic educational facilities. This is one of the prime reasons why students from different countries strive hard to get into American universities. With the quality of education getting impacted, there is a fear that the number of international students enrolling in colleges would go down drastically. This is probably the last thing that America needs at the moment. It is time to wake up, take charge and do something about this situation.

International students are accounting for lot of revenue as they are willing to pay higher tuition fee. These students are ready to do so because their home countries do not offer some of the educational facilities that American educational institutes do.

However, if the quality of teaching goes down, not many international students are going to be interested in enrolling, further making the situation worse. Looking at the overall scenario, one can assume that things will only improve if more funds are provided to colleges, which inturn will be able to pay better packages to teachers.
