  • Education has always been at the core of one’s development. And today, this very core value is being threatened. How? You may ask. The very fact that the education system in America is constantly facing issues such as budget cuts, closing downs of schools, constant threats to lay off teachers and many other legal problems.

But recently President Obama, addressed the students, teachers and parents alike in Boston, MA. He stressed on the importance of education and that cutting on the education funds is not the right way to do it. Investments in the field of education are not only important but fundamental to the development of students. And because it is a core value to the students, it is immensely important.

Through his speech, the president, put forward the message that while the nation is talking about cuts in the education sector, they fail to understand that it is creating a void in terms of knowledge learned and imparted. And this void will finally affect the students of this and the many coming generations. Lastly, it will affect the economy because students from other continents will have a better edge over the students in America.

Cutting short on the education funds also means that one is cutting the spend required to increase the job creation sector. If there is no sufficient talent, the industries cannot grow. Therefore, it will inadvertently affect the economy, stunting its growth and so forth.  And that is why the president announced a hike of funds of around eleven percent in the education sector.

This hike will help create new grants commissions for students who are deserving, who require the funds for higher studies and those who need funding to acquire their basic right to education. The funds will also help to improve the standards of subjects like mathematics, English and science. This is because it is believed that American students lag behind in these three fields when compared to the students from other continents.

In the recent past, the cost of education had risen drastically, leaving students behind with huge amounts of debts, many of them declaring bankruptcy or taking multiple years to pay off their debts. Due to this reason many students opted to drop higher study goals and the number of dropouts from schools and colleges increased by two folds.

This meant that America, which is known to be a highly developed country, lacked in terms of educated talent. It is claimed that America, who was, at one point of time the number one where education was considered, today it stands at the ninth position.

Therefore, with the hike in federal funds for education sector, President Obama wants to make sure that no compromise is made on the education front for the American students. These funds would help students to grasp better knowledge because the quality of teaching and teachers would improve over time. Plus there would be a greater focus on the subjects like English, science and mathematics.
