  •  Recession has hit the schools too. The world is suffering from the global melt down and the economic slow down. Along with the major multinationals, the schools are suffering too now.

I read a report in one of the leading newspapers that the New York schools are now facing budget reductions. The school budgets are being cut down by 5 % for the 2009-2010 school years. But Joel I Klien, the Chancellor is predicting further budget cuts in the coming time. These cuts would reflect in the after school and weekend activity programs.

The budget cuts will be totaling to $405 million, the chancellor said.

With this news many schools are making provisions to cut down their expenses and save more for the coming year. This way the budget cuts and the recession will have lesser impact on their infrastructures. This means the schools will spend around 4% less currently.
Most of the poor schools in the city were subjected to federal money accounts and this will increase during this time. More than 200 schools will now come under this category.

Almost $1 billion is expected from the stimulus package but the chancellor states that much will be distributed for pensions and other grants. Also for special education services.

Also many teachers may loose their jobs in the process and the principals should give their personal expenses a second thought. Also teacher training programs will be affected. Approximately $ 20 million can be deducted from the country’s administration budget.

The schools worldwide have seen at least 3% cuts in the expenditure. These are tough times and one should be prepared. It will slowly affect one and all. It is the right time to make savings and stick to doing what you are doing. Things will definitely change but slowly. Just be patient.
