  • Bristol Palin, the teenage daughter of Sarah Palin, has come forward as an advisor to teens to practice abstinence. I think this is wonderful for this young lady, who during her mother’s campaign this past year, was put on stage as a pregnant daughter, in the back row. She was the sore point in her mother’s pristine “teenagers should not have sex before marriage” motto all the while standing there holding her boyfriend’s hand and looking sheepish.

I admire Bristol for coming out of the back row and speaking to teenagers and advising them not to have unprotected sex before marriage. Abstinence is the new word and although it is not the only word, it might give young people some credibility to be able to say no and mean it. Bristol made a mistake and she is coming forth and telling her peers that it is not easy to raise a baby and attend school at the same time.

If only a few students listen to her and take note of how brave this young lady is in coming out and speaking on the subject, then it is very worthwhile. Of course there will be the nay-sayers who will try to mix this up with Governor Palin’s campaign somehow. But I think this young lady is telling the truth and saying that it is a tough job and that baby needs a lot of love and attention. I am also glad that she and her boyfriend did not rush out to get married just to make it look legal, because they are too young and they both have a lot of maturing to do.

Bristol is not likely to let this baby thing happen again until after her education is finished and she is married and settled. She may be dreaming of what the school dance is like or of going to the movies on a Friday night but first of all, her son is of her utmost importance.
