The Education as a Glance report for the year 2012 was released very recently by the Organization of Economic Cooperation and development body. The report is a detailed examination of education in G20 countries. This report was able to identify the five countries that are most educated in the globe.

The reason why 2012 report is extremely important is because it covers the global recession scenario that took place in 2009-2010. The report clearly states that there is no economy that is absolutely immune to recession, no matter how well educated it is. However, the report also states that it is the young generation of every economy that has to take responsibility and borne maximum burden.

The report also came up with some of the most staggering revelations. It says that as many as 16 percent people who fall in between the age group of 15 years to 29 years belonging to the OECD countries were not a part of any educational program and neither were they employed in 2010. !6 percent makes up for a huge amount of youngsters from these economies and hence this reality was rather bitter. 

OECD research report also focuses a lot on the importance of higher education in every economy. There should be a number of vocational training programs for students, especially during downturn of the economy. During recession, individuals with higher educational qualifications were able to either change jobs or look for new ones with lot more ease compared to the ones who are not well educated.

The rate of unemployment amongst people with higher education was at a minimum. Also, the gap between the earnings of people with lower educational qualification as compared to those with higher qualifications widened even more during financial crisis.

On the other hand, the report also states that not every individual has access to higher education. This is the case with every country. Also, countries around the world find it very difficult to offer higher education opportunities to each and every citizen owning to lot of reasons.

According to the research carried out by the panel, people falling in the young age group have a lot more chance of accessing higher education even if one of their parents has done so earlier. The report also takes into consideration the ever increasing cost of education. Unfortunately, education fees have increased drastically over the past few years.

This has invariably led to a number of students either dropping out of higher education or not even making an attempt of embracing it. These students and their families often fail to live upto the education cost and hence are left with no other option but to give up on it.

Finally, the report claims that its main objective is to ensure that there is a rise in the number of young students attaining higher education degrees. This way, every economy would be able to guard itself against financial crisis such as recession.
