Ann says that finance and business still pays well and many STEM graduates eventually choose these disciplines too in a bid to earn more.

Some students embarking on their STEM journey drop out due to fear. Ann says that for most, the last chance to acquire STEM literacy is therefore only in high school. She opines that though our country does need innovative developments in the field of science and technology, we also need more people who know how to formulate priorities and are adept at dealing with short sighted fixes’ consequences.

No doubt, if you are scientifically or mathematically inclined, then STEM is for you. But for many others, STEM courses are good only at the high school level. It is essential for students to follow their instincts and recognize their field of specialty for, after all, the best subjects to study are those that make you think and not memorize, according to Ann.

It is essential for students therefore to not blindly follow the brood. Rather, they must take the help of expert student counselors and specialists and make an informed decision.
