There is frenzy within the education departments across the country. Many changes are
being incorporated and that too at a very rapid pace. Within a short span of 2 months, the
state school authorities along with the governors are all set to adopt the new policies for
the nation’s education system.

In the short time period, twenty seven states have already agreed to adopt the policies
while another dozen or more will be giving their consent in the next few weeks. The
authorities were actually surprised with this outcome as they had expected people to rebel
against it but most of the states have agreed. This is because it was thought that every
state would want their own government to decide upon the education system and not adopt
a common system across the nation.

The new system states that children are to learn mathematics and English language right
from the time they are in kindergarten. This according to President Obama, means that
then no one will be able to stop America to reach the top where education is concerned.

If the states are willing to adopt and implement the policy by early august, they will be in for
a reward of $3.4 Billion in the month of September. The education secretary expressed joy
over this decision saying that the whole system will change around for the better because
most of the states are supporting them.

States like Massachusetts, who is known to have the best education system in the
country and whose students were debating about this whole process, is willing to adapt
to the policy. Massachusetts was followed by New Jersey, New York, Connecticut etc.

Some states feel that this is the best way out because of the way schools and the education
system on the whole has been hit by it. Plus the kids will be judged on the same merits
that are going to be used every where. This makes all o them equal. The expectations
from the teachers and the students alike will be the same.

It will be confusing for anyone who moves from one state to another. The policy also helps to retain the teachers and other funds in the schools. this works really well because everyone is benefitting from it.

However, not all is hunky dory. States like Alaska, Texas and Virginia have refused to
participate. The state of Virginia made it very clear that they do not believe in adopting
such policies. They are happy with the way in which the education system functions there.

If everyone is going to be benefitting from the national standards then everyone should
adopt. Maybe sooner or later it will become a compulsion as it is being seen that most
states are ready to adopt. When it does become a compulsion then the states who have
disagreed will have to adopt the standards in haste. This could affect the students. So it is
a wait and watch game for now.
