President Barack Obama has been repeatedly stressing on the critical necessity to set higher standards in the field of education to improve graduation rate significantly. Amidst the imploding economy, President Obama stands firm in his commitment initiating reform plans from the government and moving forward with the stimulus plans in a methodical manner as a part of the educational overhaul.

As we have seen, almost all schools across America have been struggling to meet ends. Millions of people are left jobless and tax revenues have tightened across the local and State governments.Though the President did not really advocate any new spending in his speech, it is clear at least $41 billion grant has been offered to the local school districts as a part of the $787 billion economic stimulus plan. His proactive and positive plans include modernizing schools with $21 billion and preventing state aid cuts by sending as fiscal relief $79 billion to the States.
 
He called for an effective and powerful generation of teachers. He called out to them saying that they were needed badly in small towns and suburbs. He implored them to reach the inner cities and said that they were needed in classrooms all over the country.

Obama’s first phase of plans towards educational reforms was unveiled to the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. This followed a strong rebuke to the former President George W. Bush. President Obama also signed an order granting funds towards research of stem cells, which has the potential to discover important treatment options for various diseases such as Alzheimers, paralysis and diabetes strongly proclaiming that no policy that taints science will be encouraged during his administration. 

Scientists welcomed whole heartedly this move by the President. They were severely hampered so far by former President Bush’s conservative, political and moral position. There was increased scepticism in the air about why President Obama is giving so much importance to less pressing issues when the melting economy problem looms large with the crumbling housing market, banks and companies. Robert Gibbs, a spokesman from the Whitehouse said unless they deal with them, there is no chance of growth for the country’s economy even in the long run.

Strongly condemning the previous government’s choice between science and moral values, President Obama said there would be no coercion or manipulation of the scientific community’s inconvenient findings.
 
The President is clearly on the move focussing on the right areas that need immediate attention. He is moving ahead in a crisp and clear manner towards the right direction, strengthening the country’s foundation namely the field of education. His innovative plans and programs are sure to show results in a few years. President Obama seems to be the saviour who has the power to put America back on track and gracefully guide the country back to its days of glory and power. It is the duty of every American to recognize the importance of higher education and earning degrees and take advantage of the President’s stimulus package to taste success and freedom.
