Even though you have the marks and the references to enter a top-notch business school, here are some tips on how you can make you resume look even better for the recruiters. They are always looking for the best students in terms of marks and connections, but actually they are sincerely looking for certain attributes when they scan your cover letter and resume.
Words such as team leader, charismatic, and made a change are just a few of the words they want to see as well as a short write up of how these words were used. Take the first word for example: team leader. When were you a team leader, where, with whom and how did you do in this position? Recruiters are looking for people who can bring different business attributes to the table beyond marks and references.
1. Many employers look to their employees for fresh employees and go back to their own alumni for additional staff
2. Take charge at home- show how you became a leader at home by taking care of the finances, looking after an ill grandparent or siblings while parents worked.
3. How did you solve a major problem while at home or school- take an example of finding financing for a school gymnasium, a school trip or a new set of team uniforms and show how you formed a group to fund the cause
4. Start a business or organization- when you needed a job and couldn’t find one, did you form a group of students and friends and form your own business to fill a need in your community?
5. Take Risks- any sort of risk wherein you felt that you had to do something outside of the box and your comfort zone.
When writing your business school resume and letter, don’t embellish or tell a mistruth but do take credit for what you have achieved. Highlight these words and make sure they are on both the cover letter and the resume.
